The Great Internet Mystery - Winer Talking to......?

Thread Title:
Last night I got an email
Thread Description:

Dave Winer is in contact with either Bill Gates or Steve Jobs according to Todd
- he won't say who but the surmise is an understandable one right?

Read this:

Last night I got an email from someone I've been wanting to hear from for a long time. There's a problem on the Internet, a big one, that only one entity can solve. The email outlined the solution and asked what I thought of it, and asked me not to say what it is publicly. I can live with that. I just want to mark this moment. A milestone. Real cooperation. I immediately implemented the feature on one of my sites. The same message was sent to a bunch of other people by the same person. I hope they did the same. When this is announced users everywhere will smile

So, WTF is all that about then?

Who's Dave Winer....

and who gives a fuck

If you dont care Kali

It's probably best just not to comment on the thread.

FYI, Winer is the guy that invented RSS - there are other reasons why he's important to some people, but that's the famous one.

thanks.

Put the title of my comment down to Irony/Sarcasm..

..which doesn't translate welll into the written word, the second part of the comment falls into the category of why does someone who has a rep from one piece of brilliance immediately command respect every time he opens his mouth. (Especially if it is in a field which is not his area of speciality)

Guruism is the curse of the internet.

Well,

FWIW, i took Dave Winer off my RSS a month ago. Largely because i was bored silly with his posts - just a load of 2 line nonsense for the most part and it was detracting from the good stuff i have in there.

Scoble is headed the same way. Im still hoping to work out what people see in him, it certainly isnt his podcast manner - i've listened to him on ITConversations and G'Day World recently and he sucks.

I'll give him a little while longer b4 i ditch his feed though, after all, i ummed and ahhhd over ditching winers for 2mts...

I understand - 'its a society thing'

The beauty of the internet is that it gives everyone a voice. A person who is willing to look at the quality of the content won't differentiate between a 'guru' and a 'newbie' if they have something interesting to say.

One of the major problems I see today is that the internet community is picking out its leaders and then following them blindly whether or not they are talking sense or out of their arses.

(I will cite Danny Sullivan and Brett Tabke as prime examples of this)

Then the gap between online and off is closed then. This is not new, people do that all the time :)

What interested me more today was an (admitedly obvious when i thought about it) observation that knowledge is cyclical on the web - which again is just another reflection of real life but a little more pronounced perhaps on the web...

Brilliant Observation

And I can't answer this in the negative - I'll just try and extend the theme a little. 'It's a case of knowleddge is cyclical, but understaning is permanent.'

(Your reference on the knowledge is cyclical theme is correct though)

It is indeed a beatyfull dream, but unfortunately it is just a dream :)

People do follow leaders - on line and off line. Most people like to be guided - not to think for themself, and it may comes to the fact that many people are very insecure (we probably all have a bit of that in us).

There is always going to be people questioning authorities, celbrities and leaders and thats good! It just won't change the fact that most people DO chose leaders to follow in many aspects on their private and professional lives.
