Melissa Harrington to be interviewed by ShoeMoney

One of the internets most success full porn stars to be interviewed by shoemoney next week. Shoemoney is asking for your help on any questions you might have for her in reguards to regular webmasters.

What if you could ask a internet porn star who is doing revenues of over 1 million dollars a year (in subscription revenue alone) questions? Would you be judgmental and not be able to get past the Adult stuff or would you ask questions? I really have no interest in the Adult arena but I think there is a ton to learn here. For instance she is not only competing in the most competitive market on the internet but is very successful (and I thought ringtones was tough). Also she faces the same issues as most of us webmasters. How do you aquire subscriptions? How do you get new customers? the list goes on and on...

She's an interesting

She's an interesting interview since she's very hands on with her site(s). She's also had some legal problems with a very uptight area she lives in.

I'd assume like most adult sites, her new subscriptions predominately come from affiliates. But I'd be interested in hearing her issues with credit card processing, customer privacy, and dealing with the fact that she gets as many searches for her name as the President of the United States.

While she is an adult model, she's also a savvy webmaster who has made tons of money online.

when is this shite link baiting going to stop

come on enough is enough, this is getting boring, go and do this type of posts on digital point forum where they might pay attention to someone who did not get any effection when they were a kid

and why would an expert who "charges money" for people to hear him speak need help on what questions to ask in the first place ?

Thank you mick

I realise this industry is a small click but there must more news out there than this?

Be nice if we had a higher ratio of industry news vs things friends are doing, thinking of doing, did last night, the group hug we all just had, things friends said about other friends.

Agreed, Mick and Paul. However

I think she is a savvy webmaster and wholeheartedly believe that there is a ton to learn from someone who is making millions (edit: I mean doing well) in an extremely competitive online market that can be applied to any online endeavor.

Agreed, Mick and Paul

Period.

One more thing

Interview this Melissa Harrington. She occupies more of the top ten spots in Google and it isn't for being a wannabe porn star (not my words) or for being so deparate for publicity she takes her clothes off in public, gets hauled off to court, gets fined $150 and begs for reader contributions to help with this. Millionaire?

This Melissa Harrington does pretty well in Google without taking her top off. And she'll probably make for a more interesting interview.

Natasha, first she had a turnover of a million dollars, then you have her making profits of millionS of dollars, and by the time she gets to this interview she'll have overtaken Bill Gates. Whoa!

YES - LOL! My bad.

I simply read the post. But to be honest, I'm not particularily interested in whoever this Melissa person is. From an online marketing perspective I've always been intrigued by how people compete in the adult industry, which is why I would want to read the article.

I'll bet that

Mr Calacanis is loving this.

do some maths

monthly subscription = $24.37 x 12 = $292.44 annual subscription

1,000,000 / 292.44 = 3419 subscribers

She's very pretty, has a stunning body, and is about 20 years younger than me. I reckon I could get 3,500 subscribers to a site of me doing that stuff (niche market!) if I had promotional links from CNN and and USA today. Therefore I would say that she's not actually that successful, if you break it down.

But good luck to her. I have no problems with the adult stuff, I'm just not so impressed by that revenue which is, after all, only £500k a year and somewhat less than the turnover of your average small business who have a much tougher job promoting their USP and probably less assistance from the nice man at PR company as well.

If that's the case...

If that's the case, you'd be more interested in hearing from her top affiliates. While I'm sure her stories are interesting, and she's done well as a webmaster, the bulk of her revenue still comes from affiliates.

You won't find many annual subscribers in adult anymore. It's under a 10% renewal rate in most cases from month to month (there are exceptions). Even with that, she is paying out half her profits to affiliates right off the bat, and then another 13% to her credit card processor. I'm sure she makes a lot of money, and she's probably grossed a cool million, but I doubt she's had a million in profit yet.

I would rather hear Shoe

interview someone who makes money in a more traditional or mainstream business niche. I doubt she has much to say that is all that newsworthy, other than where her next 'public' appearance will be.

How do you get new customers?

hmmm - I wonder....

Mr. Turner, That Sounds About Right

I have always wanted someone to post an article called "Everything I learned about SEO I've learned in The Adult Industry." I actually think that would be a great article, in terms of how to succeed in a competitive field. Then again, I'm sure nobody wants to give away their competitive edge.

Natasha

The only problem with that is that adult is much different than mainstream. I wrote why porn SEO is different in that post a little while back. It's harder in the sense that link building is completely different. But I think being an SEO in that industry teaches you a lot about Google and thus helps greatly in any transition to mainstream.

most competitive market on the internet ?

bah - not even remotely. Think about it. Hundreds of pornstar's names to rank for. Thousands of combinations when combined with anatomy terms or activities. Add on to that the freaky niche garbage and you have thousands and thousands of terms to go after that will make you a some cash. Add on top of that that the vast vast vast majority of webmasters in the adult space are absolutely terrible SEOs and you don't wind up with an overly competitive market.

Compare it to the pharma world with it's scant handful of money terms or mortgages or day day loans...

Adult SEO doesn't even make my top 5.

Really Oilman

So what is in your top 5?

I've never worked on adult sites or pharma (gosh, am I even an SEO if I haven't worked in those? - lol) but as an outsider looking in it would seem difficult to rank for basic keywords such as (insert sexual position or slang for sex organs - lol).

Mr. Turner: THANKS for that link, I've been looking for an article like that for a while.

My Friday Five

Subject to change at my whim-

Forex tops my list.
Pharma (damn near all of it)
Mesothelioma
Payday Loans
Debt Consolidation

The tail in porn is quite long. (of course the pun was intended, it's always intended, especially by the dolts that write, 'no pun intended')

The thing with porn is that

The thing with porn is that there is just so much volume. As oilman mentioned, you have pornstar names, niches, etc that are searched. I've read somewhere that 25% of searches are adult related. If you pick the right areas, it can be very profitable.

Fuck Women

Ranking for porn is hard?

I rank #5 in Google for "Fuck Women", and a few other fun terms. My daily visitors that search for that term are mostly all from Asia or the sand pits of the world where the women dress like Cousin It from The Addams Family.

Read the interview hell, I might put up an affiliate link on the page getting that traffic!

Questions

>and why would an expert who "charges money" for people to hear him speak need help on what questions to ask in the first place

Well if I was sitting doing a face to face interview I think asking silly internet related questions would be the last thing I was thinking of :-)

Read the interview hell, I

Careful, Bill. Some say the devil is in pornography, and getting involved puts you closer to the devil. But people in porn say the devil is in EVERYBODY, and getting involved brings gives the devil in you energy ;-)

I gotta go with graywolf on this one. It's a photo op for popularity and little else. If Christine Dolce ever releases a nude video, I'll reconsider the affiliate link idea ;-)
