Remove all Profiles Links and Benefits
May I suggest you remove all profile links and-in message links. They are not needed.
Then maybe consider banning all new signups without recommendation for a few weeks.
Can you set up alerts? I refresh but see nothing new. If I were to get an email upon a new post that would be nice, it's a simple transactional email via 1 of hundreds of broadcasters.

RE: Benefits
All of them are nofollowed but the links itself are good for usability I think. What if you want to check the user's website or quote the source?
I think links can be left...
since they're nofollowed anyway, I don't see the sense in doing away with links in messages and comments. As for the links in profiles, there are a lot of members registered, 'though it remains to be seen how many are still active. I'm sure we all see some users we don't know and might want to check out their site. The idea of invite-only does have some appeal, if the spamming is already an issue. And I wouldn't mind being able to set up alerts and subscriptions, either.
Report a post button
I think it might be handy to add a Report This Post button, if we're not modding comments. I see two spammers have already posted some crap today.
banning links is silly
Spammers will just put the site name with a dot com after it.
If they are allowed to post, they will spam.
The automated spam is easy to stop but the human spammers not so easy.

Won't stop the spammers. Once you're on a list ...
What this site is missing is even basic blocks and safeguards against spam. The mind boggles as to why this is the case, when you consider the members here.
That... and editors going online @ weekends maybe (?)
The Window Deco spam thread was posted 36 hours ago and it's still there!
Sheesh if I were modding SEOChat like that, they would never have sent me the T-shirt.
Spam killing duties
It maybe worth expanding the moderator list, as we have so many old hands here. I'd be happy to volunteer to kill spam, especially at the weekends.
Sorry for the two crappy
Sorry for the two crappy stories. I have no idea how they managed to be posted as stories are pre-moderated (unlike comments). Someone might have published them by mistake!
As for spam, we have installed Mollon which is said to be the most effective and it started preventing even human beings from creating an account, so we had to disable it for the registartion form. It does good a pretty decent job filtering out spammy comments. We can now test it for "Submit story" as well
It's still the matter of trial and error! But we are definitely getting there and finding some good Drupal guys as well!
Thanks!
Originall the mod team had to
Originall the mod team had to approve stories - different mods in different time zone ensured good coverage. Happy to help again if you need a hand - used to be an ed long time ago.
Ouch...

Ouch, so they had an 'inside man' here, so-to-speak!?
Content moderation log
FYI - there is a content moderation log, which shows who moderated what, but is only available to Admins.
Advise users to change their passwords
Should actually be a given, but in a speed demon world sans attention resources...
Username change
It would be cool if you allowed for username change... maybe only one time per user? I dont want/use this useranme anymore but want to keep my old account. :)
Username change, also..
Thought about changing my username too... can't think why.
