Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 Details Begin to Leak
Thread Description:

Mary Jo Foley writes about some of the emerging details about new IE7 - biggest revelation? Tabbed browsing...

IE 7.0 will feature international domain name (IDN) support; transparent Portable Network Graphics (PNG) support, which will allow for the display of overlayed images in the browser; and new functionality that will simplify printing from inside IE 7.0, partner sources said. The new browser also will likely include a built-in news aggregator.

Needless to say there are a bunch of security enhancements also...

Finally... that's great news :-)

What a surprise

No Surprise

It's no surprise that Microsoft have done a u-turn and announced the release of a browser prior to release of Longhorn. Too much competition from Firefox, etc.

The above features will not make me rush to drop Firefox in favour of IE. Hardly revolutionary are they?

Is this too little too late?

IE has been steadily losing marekt share from its high of almost 90% in 2003 its now down to about 70%. Meanwhile Firefox have been steadily rising to over 21%. It appears the users have spoken and Microsoft needs to do something bigger than this.

For XP SP2 only?

The full story about IE7 is available here.
The way it reads is that it is only for XP Service Pack 2!

Nope. I'm not going for it either. I'm so much happier with FF this is where I'm staying. [Besides, I don't HAVE SP2! Okay, the laptop does. But it's Home not Pro. And I'm not doing SP2 on my desktop....]
