Just now the bbc are showing on TV the news that Isabella Sorley is going to be jailed for 12 weeks and John Nimmo sentenced to eight weeks for sending abusive tweets.

From This morning you can read about the court case here http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/jan/24/two-face-jail-twitter-abuse

Isabella Sorley, 23, used Twitter to tell campaigner Criado-Perez to "f*** off and die you worthless piece of crap", "go kill yourself" and "rape is the last of your worries". John Nimmo, 25, told Criado-Perez to "shut up bitch" and "Ya not that gd looking to rape u be fine" followed by "I will find you [smiley face]" and then the message "rape her nice ass", Westminster magistrates court heard. Nimmo also targeted Stella Creasy, the Labour MP for Walthamstow, with the message "The things I cud do to u [smiley face]", calling her "Dumb blond bitch."

Over the past week in the UK twitter is hitting the headlines hard and not in a good way! Stan Collymore (footballer -soccer if your from the states) made major headlines about how he was being abused and the fact that uk police couldn't do much! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-25860617

These two deserved it because they made threats.

In this case they deserved jailing. We do not want a society where people can make threats on each other and terrorize people with no consequences. We must, though, be wary of people being jailed for dissenting opinions. Few realize that Twitter and other social networks do censor what we share and sometimes hide what we post from others - but not from us. The best known case of this is Reddit's ghost banning - but Reddit is NOT the only place where that is done.
