Google pitches Yahoo ads by mistake.
Story Text:

Here's one to start you off on the right track this morning. David Galbraith was pitched by an Adsense rep, all was going well for the young chap untill he gave Yahoo! owned Flickr as an example of how Adsense works...

Flickr was purchased by Yahoo! a couple of months back, and show..... Yahoo ads! heh....

But the Google ads are there

On the page that the rep gave, the Google ads are there. I'm not sure where those Yahoo ads are that Galbraith is refering to. And in general yes, sometimes the Google ads don't appear and you need to refresh to see them. But no, not on the page that the rep gave as an example. It is somewhat ironic that the rep was using as an example a web-company owned by the parent company's main competitor, but I don't think any errors were made.

Yes, weird thinking

But Tim is right, Google Adsense appears about 50% of the time for me on that page if I hit the refresh button, other half are Yahoo ads.

I guess Yahoo do not have a large enough inventory of advertisers to put out their own ads all the time.

Interesting that they go for the money option as a filler (ie Adsense) rather than the option of just putting a blank space there if they don't have enough ads of their own.

I see both ads but....

given that the Google T&Cs for the rest of us plebs dictate that running both Y & G ads like this would see us evicted from the Big Brother house I don't think it was a good example

A/B Testing

"I guess Yahoo do not have a large enough inventory of advertisers to put out their own ads all the time."

Seems more likely that they are doing some comparison testing.

good way to engineer a competitive compensation program and tweak relevancy.
