Glenn Gabe's Case Study on Snippets

What happens when you lose a featured snippet? And why are they taken away?

Glenn Gabe did a competitive analysis and it's pretty fascinating: you can read all about it here.

Quote:
Analyzing a two-week period after losing the snippet revealed a drop of 39,254 clicks to my client’s site. So yes, featured snippets can drive a lot of traffic, and this was an important snippet for my client.

Phantom 2 might have had something to do with the change, Gabe speculates. But it also has a lot to do with page structure, content, and structured data, it sounds like...maybe Google is looking for specific features to find the right answers to the right questions? Link profiles and social media activity appeared to have little impact in Gabe's study.
