Google Tests Epic Length Snippets

Gilgamesh and Ulysses got nothin' on these seven line snippets that Google is testing.

Found the article in The SEM Post today. The example that they discovered only had an 18 word long meta description, so that didn't have anything to do with it. Furthermore, the bit 7-line snippet description looks like a collection of different descriptions, ripped from different sections on the page.

Frankly, it looks like a bit of a mess! I'm not sure when snippets this long would be useful. The example it was discovered in was a recipe site - so maybe this is a special experiment directed at them? If recipes were listed out wholly in snippets, it would make for a very busy search page. But it would also continue a trend of Google adding features so that users don't ever have to leave their site.
