Google Has Begun Indexing HTTPS Pages by Default

Their language is "...we'll start crawling HTTPS equivalents of HTTP pages, even when the former are not linked to from any page." They go on to say that, "when two URLs from the same domain appear to have the same content but are served over different protocol schemes, we'll typically choose to index the HTTPS URL..." if some certain conditions are met.

This probably comes as no surprise to many of you - HTTPS already gives a small ranking boost, so of course Google is interested in making it the standard across the web. If you haven't moved to HTTPS yet, well...I guess this is another sign of the times.
