Microsoft to remove Sony CD code

M$ has now officially pronounced that the Sony XCP copy protection system counted as malicious software under the rules it uses to define what Windows should be protected against. And had now announced the addition of detection and removal tools for XCP in its next monthly update to its anti-spyware software.

Microsoft's decision to label the XCP system spyware was revealed on the blog maintained by the M$ anti-malware team. (never knew this blog existed, as they say everyone and their dog, blogs).

The reports are on main news media BBC report , Information Week , etc

"In taking aim at the music pirates, Sony succeeded only in shooting itself in the foot."
