Google & Skype Invest in Fon


Om Malik reports that both Google and Skype invested in Fon. Sequoia Capital and Index Ventures were also in on the $21.7 million funding.

Fon is 90 day old Spanish start up which aims to turn routers into hot spots to allow members to share WiFi access.

I can't imagine the telecom companies will be happy with this, and getting them on board is going to be hard. Internet infrastructure companies will likely get commoditized similarly to how many traditional publishing companies have. Of course, IF the telecom businesses were remotely close to honest some of this sort of stuff would already be well underway.
