Click Fraud

I'm wondering if some of these changes have to do with all the public rants about Click Fraud. I can only guess that CF is rampant amongst the industries mentioned and that these new guidelines are being implemented to "just not have to deal with it anymore". At least in those industries.

This is the WWW and tobacco i

Calling Jenstar.. come in Jenstar....

What's your take on all this Jen?

and does this mean adwords have or will follow suit or can you just not do that on the content network?

As far as the new changes go...

I am all for them. But I will add the disclaimer that I don't have any sites that were affected by these changes, so I am sure my opinion is different than a publisher whose majority of AdSense sites were of the pharma variety.

The lines are a little blurry - what exactly is "promotion of". This could be interpreted many ways, but I am sure publishers will report their own experiences of what is okay in the eyes of AdSense, and those lines will come into focus.

As far as Adwords goes, they already have policies on these - they are just bringing the publisher's sites in line with what Adwords advertisers already follow:

I am sure more that one advertiser asked why he couldn't advertise guns, for example, when a gun site is allowed to publish AdSense and would be perfectly targeted to the ads.

Its the beer one that cracks me up

Hard liquor 35% proof - No Adsense
Wine 12-14% proof - Adsense Allowed
Beer 3-5% proof - No Adsense
