It appears that France is trying to take on Google Maps, claiming that their Service has better hi-res photos.

Well they did announce they were going to compete on the web and build their own search engine, Quaero.

It's a bit knackerd at the moment

Even in France.

Which means roughly - lots of people came to visit, the site got swamped, the team are working on it, thanks for your interest.

Seems to be working now

In France, anyway, and it is without doubt a LOT better than the current Google Maps, certainly for aerial photographs.
