overdue

I think that was overdue. Google has cracked down on anchor texts already, press relaeses officially yield no SEO value and guest blogging solely for links has been discouraged by Matt Cutts for more than a year by now.

The rest of the article

The article sounds a little aggressive about all links on a website. Even this was mentioned:

  • Links embedded in widgets that are distributed across various sites, for example:Visitors to this page: 1,472car insurance
  • Widely distributed links in the footers of various sites

So, there should be 0 outbound links on any website?...Seems a tad too strict.

The widow's mite ...

This is a small pittance relative to all the dreadful ways Google is now gouging all the SMBs with its burying of all ways you can try for some free publicity.  They are using their monopoly to force acceptance of Adwords as the only way to be visible on the messy Web their insistance on the PageRank algorithm has created.

True...there is no distinction any more

Google has closed all doors. There is no "white hat" any more. Anything you do today may be deemed "wrong" tomorrow. Doing nothing means you won't be found. So do whatever works to survive. Best of luck. Eventually no small business or blog will be indexed unless the masses revolt to stop this nonsense.

Collecting some feedback from users:

Bugs?

Sounds like Google isn't that well ready to go more transparent with their link records...

weird indeed

Apparently the have taken it down, citing bugs ... http://searchengineland.com/google-says-snag-has-taken-manual-spam-actions-viewer-offline-169396 . They're saying that it is going to be back up in a couple days but I guess lets see. This would not be the first time that google giveth and taketh away features from GWMT...

just click the spam button,

just click the spam button, problem solved! and no more whining.. bow

Manual actions returned & working now

Barry Schwartz reports that the bugs are apparently worked out and its up now: http://www.seroundtable.com/google-manual-actions-return-17209.html

Ah, Google.

No, it is now in the manual actions instead.
