Not to be outdone, Google has made a mobile effort this week as well. The world is truly at your fingertips, and now those fingers don't even need to be connected to the Internet. As of yesterday, you can download maps directly to your phone before a trip which would include information about all the local businesses and alternate routes.
Until now, Google Maps generally would remember where you are even if you don't have Internet access, as long as you had access at the start of the trip. However, if you're in a dead zone, you stupidly go into a gas station or something, screw around with your phone and close the app, the rest of your trip becomes a guessing game. Or you have to use real maps like some kind of cartographer. Nerd.
