Google Zeitgeist 05: Featuring Press & Bloggers But No Blogging Or Coverage Allowed
Story Text:

You Don't Talk About Zeitgeist! - Danny picks up on something from here that flew by me entirely, Google's Zeitgeist forum is off limits to press and bloggers despite attendees being largely made up of, yep, you guessed it, press and bloggers!

"All speeches and discussions at Zeitgeist are off the record. To ensure that our presenters and attendees can speak openly, no press coverage or blogging is permitted."

This will be good, to see if you can keep open discussions among 400 people, some of them bloggers, many of them press, somehow off the record.

Whatever disagreements we have, Nick, I think you have the most useful, important SEO resource on the Web today. Clearly, as we see from Matt's posts in another discussion, Threadwatch is on Google's radar screen.

Even if people don't like this new policy (I cannot see why anyone would, but time will tell), it's an indication of the usefulness of the kind of open community discussion you have fostered.

People don't view Threadwatch as just another SEO forum. In another year, I wouldn't be surprised to see you get media attention.

Keep doing what you're doing. It's working.

Staying Quiet

It's amazing how quiet people can be when relationships or future invites are at stake.

Google posted a public blog and website, and it had already been linked to from other sources, so linking to it isn't a big deal.

However, I really doubt anyone will hear a lot of info that occurs at the conference outside of maybe a major news coverage that it's occurring because of the above reasons.

There are always a few events each year that fly under the radar. Usually, there's a story about a 'secret meeting' or 'gathering' which quickly fades away into the next piece of new that's happening. I suspect this will be the exact same thing.

If you mean me not linking to it, the boring truth is that Ivana was calling me for dinner and i rushed the post before going downstairs :)
